Depth perception in preschoolers

Why do some kids have trouble seeing in three dimensions? Stereopsis, or the ability to see 3D, is a fundamental capability of our visual system. However, certain medical conditions can take this ability away. When this happens in early childhood, it is a matter to be taken seriously because it could be a sign of a developmental vision problems or even a life threatening disease like a cancerous tumor, as in this famous story from Ontario.
